medicines containing narcotic analgesics (nar-KOT-ik an-al-JEE-zicks)
such as tramadol (TRA-ma-dole) and acetaminophen (a-seat-a-MIN-oh-fen)
are used to relieve pain. An opioid analgesic and acetaminophen
used together may provide better pain relief than either medicine
used alone. In some cases, you may get relief with lower doses
of each medicine.
Delivery of pain medications
If you undergo a minor procedure, your doctor may prescribe
an oral pain medication, likely in a pill, tablet or liquid
form. But if you undergo a more extensive surgery, such as abdominal
or chest surgery, your doctor has other ways to deliver the
pain medication such as tramadol.
Tramadol is a pain reliever, used to treat moderate to moderately
severe pain. Tramadol affects chemicals and receptors in the
body that are associated with pain, to help give you relief.
Since Tramadol is taken on an "as-needed" basis, if
you miss a dose, there is no reason to worry. You simply can
take another dose when you feel you need to in order to prevent
pain.
